Kites’ Nest Cottage, Cwmifor, Llandeilo

Location

Kites’ Nest Cottage, Cwmifor, Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire SA19 7AT

How to get there:

Car access pretty much a necessity.  Rail and Bus services are limited.

Nearest Town:

Llandeilo 3 miles

Local Area

Llandeilo has two small supermarkets  (3 miles).  Larger supermarkets to be found in Ammanford (12 miles) and Carmarthen (17 miles).   Many and varied eateries, restaurants, pubs and  individual shops, chemists etc. to be found in Llandeilo.

Kites’ Nest is an ideal base from which to explore the beautiful Carmarthen countryside by foot or by car.

Kites’ Nest Cottage is situated above the Twyi Valley and only 3 miles from the picturesque town of  Llandeilo fast becoming a centre for Arts Festivals of all kinds.  There can be found a wealth of individual shops, eateries etc.

There are numerous local walks from the cottage where you may spot snipe, buzzards, ravens, a rare cuckoo, several species of warbler and, of course, kites.    The cottage is well-stocked with OS maps and guides for the area and a climb up the Brecon Beacons (visible from the cottage), is well worth the effort.

Aberglasney Gardens, a restored garden, is only 15 minutes away and the internationally known National Botanic Garden of Wales is within easy reach.  Carmarthenshire is known as the Garden of Wales and two other gardens worth a visit are Cae Hir and Norwood Gardens.

For those with an historical interest, there is a wealth of castles – Dinefwr, Carreg Cennen and Dryslwyn to name but a few.  The castles of Laugharne and Llansteffan are also nearby at the river mouths of Tywi and Taf.

Newton House, Llanerchaeron and Dolaucothi Gold Mines are National Trust properties all worth a visit and the small city and Cathedral at St. David’s provide a good day out.
