Location
High Barbuchany, Newton Stewart, DG8 6QF
How to get there:
The nearest airport is Glasgow, under 2 hours away.
The Centre is located near the A75, with easy access for those travelling by car. If travelling west, follow the A75 all the way to the centre. From Glasgow, follow the A77 to Girvan and then take the A714 to Newton Stewart. (SatNav is likely to want to take you on a single track road over the mountains, turning off the road before reaching Girvan, which is a beautiful but slower drive.)
Access is also possible by train to Stranraer and then by local bus into Newton Stewart. Taxi is recommended for travel from the bus stops to the centre.
Nearest Town:
Newton Stewart (Stranraer 25m)
Local Area
Nearby is the picturesque town of Newton Stewart with quaint shops, several local takeaways and plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from.
For shopping, you can visit Aldi and Sainsbury’s supermarkets as well as a number of excellent local grocery stores.
The area around Newton Stewart offers some fantastic opportunities for outdoor activities and sightseeing. The Merrick Leisure Centre, which offers a 4 lane pool, 16 station fitness suite and 3 court games hall, is only 5 minutes away.
A short drive will take you into the Galloway Forest Park, the largest forest park in the UK, where you can enjoy hiking and fishing or, for the more adventurous, the 7 Stanes Mountain Bike Trails. If you tire of the hills and woods you can head down to the Machars and explore the history of this beautiful coastline with its pretty fishing villages or venture along the coast to picturesque sandy beaches.
There are also a number of sites of interest to Christians in this part of the world. The Isle of Whithorn is said to be the place where Christianity first came to Scotland, with the arrival of St. Ninian (360-462AD).
