How to get there:
Car is the best option – realistically, the only option. Train to Aberystwyth, but then car or taxi to the house. Buses are infrequent.
Nearest Town:
Aberystwyth
Local Area
The local garage shop sells basic items (10 minute drive). The main supermarkets and shops are in Aberystwyth (30 minute drive).
Devil’s Bridge has an excellent restaurant at the Hafod Hotel (5 minute walk). There’s a café (5 minute walk) at the Vale of Rheidol Station; an Ice Cream Shop – literally down the road, and a shop by the Bridge that sells ice cream and gift items (5 minute walk).
Beaches are in Aberystwyth, with shopping and a few other attractions. The Cliff Railway has a café at the top of Constitution Hill (you can walk to the top). The Elan Valley is a beautiful area with dams, walks, and visitor centre with café (40 minute drive). The Red Kite Centre (15 minute drive) has a daily feeding time in the afternoon with walks, a café, toilets, and gift shop (pay for parking). There are lots of walks and the house has books with many local walks and attractions. There is a coastal walk to Borth from Aberystwyth (take the train back).
Devil’s Bridge Falls (5 minute walk) and the walk is well worth doing (Not for very young children as there are very steep steps). Pay for entry.
Facilities
Maesmynach is an 1880’s detached cottage on the ‘main’ A4170 in the village of Devil’s Bridge about 13 miles from the University town of Aberystwyth. Access is either through the front door or the rear utility area. The house has 3 double bedrooms, and 1 small single bedroom and a chair-bed if needed. A cot and highchair are available on request. The bathroom and toilet, with over bath shower, is upstairs. Dishwasher, washing machine, and tumble dryer are all available for guests to use.
It is possible to park 3 cars (2 comfortably) off the road. There is a 43” TV with a Free Sat box and DVD player in the living room with ample seating. Wi-Fi is included (up to 70bps). Netflix, Prime, and Apple apps are available to sign in with your account. The kitchen is very well equipped with pretty much everything you will need. The dining room has a large table. Bedding and towels are all provided. There are a couple of boxes of toys for younger children. Unfortunately, wheelchair access is not available as the house is quite ‘quirky’ with narrow low doors and a step. There is a private seating area outside. No smoking.
