How to get there:
By road: The Fold is best accessed by car, with direct access from the lane running between the A456 and Orcop village. Turn onto farm track across yard to the Fold parking area, next to The Fold’s courtyard garden area.
Rail: The nearest rail station is Hereford, 10 miles away
Bus: The Fold is on the Hereford/Garway bus route, which passes the farm gate 3-times a week (request stop at Bagwyllydiart)
Nearest towns: Hereford 9 miles, Ross-on-Wye 11 miles, Hay-on-Wye 21 miles, Abergavenny 19 miles.
Local Area
The Fold is located in the small hamlet of Bagwyllydiart, on the elevated south-eastern slope of the beautifully elevated Garway Hill. Conveniently situated just 3 miles from the main A465, Hereford to Abergavenny road, it offers easy access to many local attractions. The village of Ewyas Harold, 4 Miles away, has a grocery shop, good fish and chip shop, two pubs, a butchers shop, doctor’s surgery, church etc.
Pontrilas, 3 miles away, has a post office and general store for essentials.
A number of traditional local pubs with restaurants are located within a 3-6 mile radius – including highly recognized: The Bell, at Skenfrith (6 miles) and The Kilpeck Inn, Kilpeck (3 miles)
The ancient cathedral city of Hereford, just 9 miles away, boasts two permanent heritage exhibits, the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library, plus seasonal cathedral garden tours, and host to the famous Three Choirs Music Festival. There are lovely scenic walks along the banks of River Wye, as well as all the usual city amenities.
Castles – there are plenty within a few short miles – including those on the Three Castles Walk – Grosmont, White Castle, and Skenfrith.
Ancient Churches – Garway and Kilpeck are both historically and architecturally very significant ancient churches, each approximately 3 miles from The Fold.
Hay-on-Wye – famously known as the book capital of the world, with secondhand bookshops galore and an annual Literary Festival, offers a colourful array of independent shops, pubs and restaurants – a go-to place for all tastes, ideal place to spend an afternoon/day.
Abergavenny – a delightful market town, just 20 mins away, has an annual food festival held in September, lovely independent shops, restaurants, local history museum, and small cinema. Surrounded by the three mountains – Skirrid, Sugar Loaf, Blorenge – it’s a lovely scenic day out and gateway to the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Walking – plenty of beautifully scenic walking routes in all directions from The Fold, including The Herefordshire Trail which passes the farm gate, and St Thomas Pilgrim Way crossing just along the lane.
Facilities
The Fold is a lovely modern single-storey lodge retreat, Situated on a small non-working Herefordshire farm, with stunning views of the Black Mountains and Golden Valley. Fully centrally heated and comfortably accommodating one individual or couple sharing (double bed), the open-plan design provides a fully-fitted kitchen, dining, living and sleeping area, and en-suite shower room with walk-in shower, WC and basin.
Private parking spaces for two cars next to The Fold.

Indoors: Dining table and chairs; comfortable 100% natural linen bedding, wool filled duvet, pillows, and mattress topper; bath and hand towels; 2 extra wool blankets; WiFi; TV; Hair dryer; carbon monoxide monitor; smoke alarm; combination microwave/oven; fridge, induction hob, toaster, crockery, cutlery, tea towels etc; cooking pots, and a selection of teas and coffee.
A small selection of creative materials, books, and reflective resources are provided for guest use.
Outdoors: Barbeque and utensils; equipment for picnics; fire pit; picnic table; chairs and outdoor cushions; plenty of lighting over seating and walking areas. Private parking and fenced gravel courtyard area. Guests enjoy strolling, sit, picnicing in the 10 acres of gardens and grounds, newly planted orchard and conservation area.

Charges
£85 per night (minimum stay 2-nights) – includes: loaf of bread, milk, butter, tea and coffee
We offer a 10% discount to clergy.
We offer a limited number of retreat bursaries per year, through the Association for Promoting Retreats (please email us for further information)
Energy Provision:
Gas, electricity and cleaning costs are included in the charge.
Availability
The Fold is available all year round.
Arrival and Departure times:
Arrival – from 3 pm; departure 10.00 am. There is a key safe for access, on the occasions when we are not able to greet you personally.
Booking arrangements:
We accept bookings to commence from any day of the week, please email for your chosen dates.
Pets:
Sorry – we are unable to take pets at the Fold.
