Christian Holiday Cottage, Cumbria — By the Sea
This Christian holiday cottage, Cumbria, is a beautifully restored 200-year-old former coach house, tucked away in a quiet coastal hamlet where the Lake District meets the sea. This spacious four-bedroom home sleeps eight — two rooms with king-size beds, plus a double and a small double — and you’re just a couple of minutes’ walk from a peaceful, uncrowded beach.
With the Lake District only 35 minutes away, there’s plenty to explore, but many guests come simply to slow down and rest in God’s presence. It’s a genuinely restful spot for clergy and church workers who rarely get the chance to switch off.
Beyond the beach, Morecambe Bay is a haven for birdwatchers, with wading birds gathering on the mudflats at low tide, and the ancient Aldingham Motte and St Cuthbert’s Church — said to have sheltered the body of St Cuthbert on its journey from the Danes — are both a short stroll away for anyone who enjoys a quiet walk with a sense of history. Furness Abbey and the historic town of Barrow-in-Furness are also within easy reach for a day out beyond the cottage.
Ulverston itself is well worth a visit too, with its Thursday and Saturday street markets, independent cafés, and a lively calendar of local festivals through the year, including a well-loved lantern procession each November. It’s also the birthplace of Stan Laurel, of Laurel and Hardy fame.
Many clergy and church workers who stay here tell us how much they value the total change of pace — no packed itinerary, just sea air, log fires, and proper time to read, pray, and rest. If you’re looking for a genuinely peaceful Christian holiday cottage away from the busyness of ministry, The Beach House is built for exactly that.
Perfect for:
- Clergy and church workers in need of proper rest
- Small groups or extended family holidays (sleeps 8)
- Coastal walks, birdwatching, and Lake District day trips
- A quiet half-term break or personal retreat by the sea
Whether it’s a family half-term getaway or some much-needed personal rest, this Christian holiday cottage, Cumbria, is ready whenever you need it.
