Local Area
Torridge House Cottages are tucked away on the edge of the tiny village of Little Torrington in Torridge, mid/north Devon.
The cottages, gardens and grounds are surrounded by fields and private woodland to which there is no public access – a peaceful, quiet setting. In term time, families relish the joy of this: the setting, the toys, hands-on involvement with a wide selection of rabbits, guineas, mice, chickens, ducks and little pigs, and wide open gardens and grounds.

Our part of Devon is a landscape of single-track roads, hedgerows, fabulous views, quaint fishing villages, market towns, country pubs, beautiful gardens and excellent family attractions. It also has wonderful literary connections – including Tarka the Otter, Westward Ho!, Ann Cleeves’ detective series, Simon, The Secret of Crickley Hall, and War Horse. This is indeed War Horse Country and the site of the 1646 Civil War battle of Torrington.
Great Torrington has plenty of independent shops as well as a Lidl and Co-op, plus an M&S Food and a Morrisons mini store. There are also independent cafés, pubs and tea rooms offering good food. A full Morrisons is a short 20-minute drive away in Bideford.
