This Christian holiday chalet, Freshwater East, sits within Trewent Park, a friendly holiday park just two minutes’ walk from a sandy, family-friendly beach on the South Pembrokeshire coast. The chalet itself is fully refurbished, with an on-site pub under new management serving good food to residents and walkers alike. Lamphey, Pembroke, and Pembroke Dock are all a short drive away for shops and everyday supplies, and the whole stretch of coast either side sits within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, with the Wales Coast Path running right along the shore.

Two miles up the road, Lamphey is home to one of Wales’s finest medieval ruins: Lamphey Bishop’s Palace, a country retreat built for the Bishops of St Davids and used since before the Norman Conquest. Most of what survives today, including its 82-foot great hall, was the work of Bishop Henry de Gower between 1328 and 1347, one of three such palaces spaced a day’s ride apart across the diocese. It’s free to visit, cared for by Cadw, and a genuinely restful spot for the same reason it drew the bishops themselves: a proper escape from the burdens of church and state.

A short drive along the coast near Bosherston stands St Govan’s Chapel, a tiny thirteenth-century chapel wedged into a fissure in the cliff face, reached down around fifty worn stone steps. It’s built on the site of a hermit’s cell belonging to St Govan, a sixth-century Irish monk who, legend says, hid from pirates in the very same rock. Once a place of pilgrimage for those seeking healing at its holy well, it remains one of the most atmospheric small churches in Britain, though it sits within the Castlemartin firing range, so it’s worth checking access before setting out.

Also close by, and often named among the finest beaches in the country, Barafundle Bay is a short stretch of golden sand reachable only on foot, with no road or car park at the beach itself. The half-mile walk in from Stackpole Quay, down worn stone steps built by the estate’s former owners to reach what was once their own private beach, is very much part of the appeal. It sits on the same stretch of coast path that passes right through Freshwater East itself, making it a realistic walk as well as a scenic drive.

Pembroke, four miles off, has its own Norman castle, birthplace of King Henry VII, still standing today after a lengthy Civil War siege. Tenby, ten miles east, makes a proper day out beyond the beach: a walled medieval old town, a harbour lined with pastel-coloured houses, and boat trips out to Caldey Island, home to a community of Cistercian monks who have lived there since 1929 and still make their own perfume, chocolate, and shortbread to support the abbey.

The wider Wales region is worth browsing for anyone planning a longer trip, and the Cadw page for Lamphey Bishop’s Palace is a good place to start planning a visit before you go. Between a beach on the doorstep, a pub on site, and centuries of Christian history within easy reach along the coast, it’s an easy, well-placed base for a properly restful week away, whatever the weather does.

Pembroke Dock (6 miles) offers most of the well known large supermarkets and stores.

There are many other beaches all within easy reach by car with the opportunity to hire all you need for a variety of water sports and book lessons.
Set in the Pembrokeshire Country Park there are plenty of activities for all tastes. There are family theme parks, go-karting, coastal walks and plenty of castles to visit to name but a few.

Facilities

We aim to provide all you need for a comfortable holiday. Professionally cleaned to Covid 19 requirements, with a welcome basket to start you off containing sachets of tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits, a pint of milk in the fridge, diluting juice and a sweetie jar for the kids.
We supply all bed linen, towels, bath mat and tea towels. Washing up liquid, dish washer tabs and luxury toiletries are provided for your use. (Towels are for use in the chalet only so please bring your own beach towels).
Chalets are fully refurbished to a high standard with 2 bed rooms, one with a double bed and one with 2 singles. Ample storage space is provided for your belongings. Hair dryer in double room.

The downstairs living area is open plan, comprising of fully fitted and well stocked kitchen with dish washer, microwave, oven and hob. The dining area is to the rear and sitting area to the front. Under floor heating.
WiFi is included allowing you to access your own personal Netflix/ Amazon accounts on the smart TV.
Travel cot with duvet and sheets, baby bath and portable dining seat are provided on request.
There is a double sofa bed which can be used if requested at booking and bedding will be provided.
A mixture of family games and books, plus a portable DVD player with various DVDs are provided for your use.
